The changelog has been updated!

One of the things I enjoy about my working on KnoppMyth, is getting to work with various people.  I was happy to work with Mythic.tv on the Dragon and the Dragon 2.0.  We've expanded the line of KRP hardware by working the good people at Better Access to bring you the Australian Dragon!  If you're "down under" and want a KnoppMyth ready solution, please consider the Australion Dragon.  R5F1 includes optimization from both Mythic.tv that benefits all KnoppMyth users and optimzations from Better Access for our good friends in Australia.

After months of hard work, I'm proud to annouce the release of KnoppMyth R5F1.  The ISO is hitting the mirrors now and the torrent (Get KnoppMyth) is up as well.  Many, many thanks to those that held the torch high as I've been rather busy these past few months.  I'm bound to forget some names, so I won't mention any.  Thanks to all the contributors and the testers.  As I'm still rather busy, the changelog may not get update until later this weekend.  tjc has posted an upgrade guide!

For those that were concerned following the last news item, a new release is just around the corner!

Our friends at CommandIR have come up with a web-based configuration tool for LIRC!

4/01/07
If you have not noticed, I've been rather busy with work for the last several months.  By now, I'd hope to have made another release public.  Unfortunately due to work and other changes in my personal life, I'll no longer be able to maintain KnoppMyth.

I hope the new year has been good to everyone so far!  We ended last year by releasing KnoppMyth R5E50 on Christmas day!  RE50 was built from scratch on Debian Sid and uses the hardware detection scripts found in Knoppix 5.0.  Be sure to read tjc's guide.

A lot of work went into R5E50.  I wanted a release that was something special as R5E50 is named in honor of Rob Levin.  Although I didn't personally know Rob, he and I spoke several times on IRC.  I was shocked and deeply touched upon hearing of his passing.  Thank you Rob.

A new Dragon rises! My congratulations to the folks at Mythic.tv.  Today, they announced the Dragon 2.0.  It has been a pleasure working with Bob and Noah.  While they have an interest in getting KnoppMyth on their hardware, they go above and beyond.  Not only are the specs of the Dragon available for anyone to build their own, they contribute code that benefits all users of KnoppMyth.  So, even if you aren't in the mood for a full blown Dragon, please visit their site.  It is a great place to pick up an HD tuner (if you are so inclined to build your own Dragon), remote, silent power supply and more.

I got the Lx8100 from LixSystems today!  My first impressions are...  sweet!  I like the look of the system better than I thought I would.  I probably won't have time to fully test it until this weekend...  Stay tuned!

For those that will be attending LinuxWorld UK, I'll be in the ".org village" with a few other folks demonstrating MythTV.  In addition, we'll be handing out CDs of the latest release.  Please stop by and say 'Hi'.

09/01/06
I'd like to thank LixSystems for their sponsorship.  The kind folks there are generously donating a Lx8100 to the project!

I'm happy to annouce the release of R5D1.  I've had a busy several few months.  A lot of work has gone into R5D1.  The torrent should be the first source that is up and running (I'm posting this early, so please be patient and please keep your clients running).  The regular mirrors will follow later in the day.  I've also updated the Pamphlet of KnoppMyth.  While it isn't 100% complete, I think it is a lot better than before.  Please read it before installing or asking questions on the forum.  I hope to have it finished shortly.  Please read tjc's guide to upgrade to R5D1 before upgrading.

For those that missed it, I was on The Linux Link Tech Show episode #149.

Those that would not have you enjoy your media your way are at it again.  We cannot allow this to happen!  Please support the EFF.

05/26/06
The changelog has been updated.

05/18/06
Sorry I don't have time for a proper update, real life (work) takes precedence.  KnoppMyth R5C7 should start appearing on the mirrors and torrent shortly.  I'll update the changelog, etc in a few days.

03/18/06
Those that use a wireless NIC that use the prism module may want to wait for the next release.  At the earliest, this will be sometime next weekend.  You can also download this tarball which has all need packages.

A few new links for everyone.

The new server is up and running!  And just in time as KnoppMyth R5B7 is ready for release!  While the forum and website have not been transitioned yet, the FTP is up and running!  In addition, we have another new mirror, thanks to Chris!  Many thanks to all the testers.  A special thanks to those with patients and understanding.

R5B7 "The red pill for your media" can also be retrieved via Bit-Torrent thanks to mythic.tv.  Please keep your clients up and share.  You can also find it at Supertux, hust.la, monash.edu and of course rdt1.org.  The other mirrors should be online shortly.

02/15/06
Thanks to the generosity of GlobalTap, we have another mirror!

SCALE was a success!  Congratulations to the winners of the raffle Chris and Eric!

LinuxDevices.com has posted a brief article that I wrote!

Viewing articles on the forum now requires registration.  This was done because MySQL was getting too many connections.  Despite my efforts to tweak it, it was still bogging done my server.  This will remain in affect until the new server is up and running.  To those that register with the colorful usernames and password.  Really, is there a need?

I've updated the raffle page with links to what the case and keyboard look like.

01/30/06
We'll have a booth at SCALE, where we will be demonstrating KnoppMyth and MythTV.  We'll also have a preview of the upcoming installer KMI.  In addition, you can win a HTPC built by me.

01/23/06
KnoppMyth R5A30.2 is out!  We also have a new mirror!

01/09/06

KnoppMyth R5A30.1 has been released.  We squished a few bugs that popped up in R5A30.  You can find it on the mirrors as well as Bit-Torrent.

01/04/06
Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears.  I've come to ask for aid, not to rake you over the coals.  Since the inception of KnoppMyth, Dale and I have been "footing the bill".  Dale provided the first mirror and continues to do so.  In additional, he continues to work hard on the new installer.  Currently, I host the site on a PII on my home DSL line.

Now, Open Source Labs has offered to host the site for us.  But to do so, we must provide them with a server.  Being "average Joes" oursevles, we cannot just run out an obtain a server.

So, if KnoppMyth has saved you time and/or brought you some measure of joy. We humbly ask that you donate so that we can purchase a server and move the site to a much faster link to the Internet.  You can find a link to PayPal at the bottom of this page.

Thanks for the consideration.

In other news:
KnoppMyth R5A30 should be hitting the mirrors!  You can already find it on the torrent!

11/21/05
Last week was a rather busy one for me, but better later than never...  If you missed it, R5A26 is out!  If you are using R5A22, please don't upgrade to R5A26.

11/08/05
Please don't use R5A22. If you are doing a new install, please use R5A16. I accidently included a SVN version of MythTV in R5A22. According to Isaac, there is "no guarantee" this will smoothly upgrade to 0.19. If you are using R5A22, we are working on a way to safely revert MythTV to 0.18.2. My humble apologoies for the mix up.

10/30/05
ftp.rdt1.org maybe subject to offline conditions until November 1st.

10/27/05
The site will be down on 10/28/05 from approximately 7:00 AM PST to 4:00 PM PST.

10/23/05
The feedback on R5A22 has been really positive!  Most of the mirrors have been updated!  Thanks to Aubrey, we have a new mirror as well!

10/19/05

Well, it has been a rather busy several months for me...  So busy, I forgot about the second anniversary of KnoppMyth.  But I managed to find time to work on a new release!  KnoppMyth R5A22 is now available.  Special thanks to Mythic.tv for thier help with the latest release.  If you are looking for a HD-HTPC, look no further than Mythtic.tv's Dragon

10/17/05
The site will be down on 10/18/05 from approximately 5:00 AM PST to 4:00 PM PST.

5/28/05
It took a little longer than I'd have like, but KnoppMyth R5A16 it out!  It includes MythTV 0.18.1 and a few other improvements.  With the inclusion of 0.18.1, you can now subscribe to LxMSuite.  Subscribing to LxMSuite is inexpensive and can help future development efforts.  Please consider it.

5/1/05
Hot on the heels of R5A15 comes R5A15.1.

4/25/05
I'm happy to announce the release of KnoppMyth R5A15.  You can find it here, here, here or here as well as on Bit-Torrent!  It should become available on the other mirrors shortly.

4/19/05
We've been working hard to make the Linux/MythTV install as easy as possible.  We'd also like to finding the right hardware just as easy.  To this end, we've created the KnoppMyth Reference Platform.

4/8/05
Check out our rating on mythtv.org!

For those that missed it, R5A12 is out!  Many thanks for solarpc.com, with thier assistance KnoppMyth now offers out the box support for Unichrome chipset used in the Via EPIA.

3/16/05
The forum is back online!   Sorry it took so long but last week was a very busy one for me.   I suggest everyone change  thier passwords.

3/10/05
I hope everyone is well!  The forum will be back up!  However, at the moment I'm just very busy with work.  Just think, you don't have to read 'perhaps a search of the forum'. ;)  Don't forget, you can also find help on irc.freenode.net #knoppmyth.

3/7/05
2250 PST
We are working on restoring the forum.  We'll get it up as soon as we can.  As we'll be using a backup, new posts will not be available.  New members will have to recreate your accounts.  Not to worry, only phpBB2 was affected.  No ISOs are hosted on the system and development isn't done on the system.

1400 PST
Sad day.  phpBB was compromised at approximately 12:45 PM PST.  I've taken it down and I have no plans to bring it back up at the moment.  A backup of the configuration was also downloaded.  Here is the output of Apache's log.  This truly saddens me as Dale, myself and the community have I busted our humps  on KnoppMyth.

2/21/05
While at SCALE, I did a presentation on remastering Knoppix.  You can find a PDF here.

2/18/05
It has been a busy 2 weeks!  Last weekend, Dale and I were at SCALE!  We had a great turn out and handed out CDs of R5A9.  We even gave away a pcHDTV 3000 courtesy of pchdtv.com.  R5A10 is now available for download!  Please check the mirror sites!  A torrent should be available shortly!

2/3/05
Dale and I will be at SCALE on Feb 12th and 13th.  If you're in Southern California, please stop by and say hi.  You may even win a pcHDTV 3000 thanks to pchdtv.com!

Happy Holidays!
Sorry for the outage folks.  I neglected to re-register the domain, everything should back to normal.  I'm finally getting over the flu and will be out of town on business for a week, this will of course push back our work on R5.  Special thanks to Hauppauge for sending Dale and I a pair of PVR-350s!  We also have a new mirror!

Double whammy, both Dale and I have been under the weather.  But the good news is that I have permission from Hauppauge to distribute the drivers for the PVR-x50 with KnoppMyth!  Thanks to Hauppauge and Anthony from SHSPVR for getting me intouch with them!
